Culebra Architectural Refresh

Overview

This long-term project spans over fifteen years of collaboration with the client, culminating in the architectural and landscape redesign of a previously Mediterranean-style home. The objective was to update the exterior aesthetics and outdoor areas with a more contemporary, cohesive design.

Role and Responsibilities

Led the architectural and garden design, created a unified exterior scheme, and selected all materials and finishes. Oversaw enhancements to outdoor living areas, including the design of a custom fire pit and an outdoor kitchen that blends form and function.

Challenges and Solutions

The challenge was to introduce contemporary design elements without erasing the traditional character of the original architecture. Solutions included creating covered and open-air gathering spaces that flow naturally, designing a warm wood-clad pool house, and integrating landscape features to reinforce spatial cohesion.

Outcomes Achieved

A harmonized outdoor environment that connects the main house and pool house. The modern interventions enhance usability and aesthetic continuity while preserving the home’s original charm.
